Frage: Argentina's 1882-1896 2-centavos

Beitrag von villa66 » So 03.04.16 07:40

I promised one of my Italian friends that I would ask this question on the German forum:

The Argentina 2-centavos of 1882-1896; has anyone seen or heard of any of these coins being overstruck on some other similarly-sized copper or bronze coin?

================================================

And for critique (not knowing much about Argentine coins), I post this entry I just now made in my notebook:

x: An 1893 2-centavo piece with some wear—and like so many of these coins—rim dings. Its much-less-than-nice condition seems at odds with what I’ve read about these coins being retired just a few years after this piece was minted. (Both they and the 1-centavo were demonetized 1 January 1896, which also seems a little odd—both coins were apparently still being produced in 1896.) But I don’t know…maybe the rim dings and the wear aren’t so unexpected on a big coin like this. It circulated during a time when coins in general got a real workout, and too, these big (30mm, 10g) coppers are LMU clones, so maybe they worked in places beyond Argentina’s borders, perhaps for some years after the Argentinians had pensioned them off. (xx)

Hallo!

I don't understand your question (my english is very poor and the Google Translator give me a chaotic translation)

Those coins (1 and 2 centavos) worth more that the cost of the raw material, thats the reason because those coins have a short history.

There's a odd story about a police case (Postman murder FARBOS) "El asesinato del cartero Farbos" write for Carlos Cúneo and Abel González that said:

"...Raúl Tremblié seguía haciendo gala de una sangre fría admirable y persistía en negar su culpabilidad. Si bien reconoció que Farbos y él se dedicaban al contrabando de monedas argentinas de cobre (de 1 y 2 centavos) que luego vendían en Francia como metal, obteniendo así un precio que triplicaba la inversión..."

"...Raul Tremblié still displaying an admirable coolness and persisted in denying his guilt. While he acknowledged that FARBOS and were engaged in smuggling Argentine copper coins (1 and 2 cents) which are then sold in France as metal, obtaining a price tripling investment..."

The complete history (in spanish):

Sorry if I don't understand your question.
Danke, Gracias, Thanks.

Some story—copper coins and murder most…extreme—yikes!

But thank you; I’m glad to have read it, which I did in full. And then followed it up with a long visit to the Argentine coin forum. I’ll definitely be back to read.

------------------------------------------------

Maybe I can ask the question about the 1882-1896 2-centavo coins more clearly….

Were these coins ever produced by using other, perhaps older coins as planchets (flans)?

-----------------------------------------------------

Thanks again,

;) v.

Oops. Again. All this just to change the word "extreme" to "thorough."
