meine liebe Nachbarin, eine ältere Dame, fand dieses Glitzerding vorgestern im Nachlass ihres Gatten. Jetzt träumt sie von einer kleinen Kreuzfahrt.
"Frau Schneider", sag ich, "des ist ein halber Dollar, da kommen´s nicht einmal bis München Hauptbahnhof. Der glitzert a bissl golden, der wiegt doch nicht mal 12 Gramm...die ham halt a bissl a Goldschicht drübergemalt , das wars..."

Aber sie glaubt mir nix!

Zum Glück kenn ich jemanden, der uns helfen kann!

habt Ihr eine kurze Info für mich, sonst geht das das ganze Wochenende über so weiter...

I guess I’ll be the one to deliver the bad news.

There are only a few dates of this coin type that have significant catalog value in this low grade (notice the smooth surfaces): 1916s, 1921, 1921d, and to a lesser degree, 1921s and 1938d.

(And whatever collector’s value there might have been in this piece has been severely crippled by the plating it has received.)

The date I see is 1944, one of the commonest and therefore least valuable in the series. Like the other dates in the ‘40s—when well-worn, anyway—this coin is worth its silver value only.
