1818 Braunschweig - Wolfenbuttel 24 Mariengroschen
Incase google translate is poor and You can read in English:
hello,
i have been a member for a while and my poor German limits my abilkity to post, i have to use google Translate.
i have recently purchased this 1818 24 Mariengroschen from Brunswick- Wolfenbuttel. i am concerned that it does not ping like my 1817 copy. there are also some slight variations with design (the crown being the main concern)
could anyone help me identify the authenticity ? ive weighed, measured checked with rare earth magnets and done the Specific Gravity test and all point to genuine but i cannot help but be concerned.
Ping/ Ring test. You can hear the difference.

Arnold, Küthmann, Steinhilber: Grosser Deutscher Münzkatalog has number 27 for these coins. In 1817 the mintage was 18.900 and in 1818 16.500. The weight of the coins should be 13,083 g (993/1000 AG). The different sound is probably caused by a small fault in the interior of the blank. - I use for my collection also the catalogue of R.B. Smith, The Anglo-Hanoverian Coinage, but there is no further information available. - The shield sides of both of your coins seem to be made of the same die, compare the first G of George. The rear sides show differences in the position of the inscription, the number 4 shows to V of TVTOR or between T and V. Best regards, KarlAntonMartini

Thanks very much. I wasn’t aware of a catalogue for Anglo hannoverian coins ! I’ve just been using the British Colonial coins catalogue which includes them. The biggest difference between them both I found was 1817 has an extra jewel on the bottom of the crown.
I suppose the book you quote is not in English ?
Thanks !

Re: 1818 Braunschweig - Wolfenbuttel 24 Mariengroschen
British Colonial Coins? Is that the book of 1986 or is there a new edition? - The Arnold et. al. catalogue is in German, a standard work for german coins of the 19 th and 20 th century. Here the latest edition: https://www.amazon.de/Gro%C3%9Fer-deuts ... n+Hannover
For Hannover the standard catalogue would be the Welter. But this book "Die Münzen der Welfen" is out of print for years.
Some additional information may be found here: http://www.numismatikforum.de/viewtopic ... 51&t=52767
