This 1990 Polish commemorative celebrates the trade union Solidarity, one of the main movers responsible for restoring the crown to the Polish eagle’s head. Pieces dated 1990 like this one are the first Polish coins to show the crowned head since before the Communists took over.
I note that the proof surfaces of this piece are particularly effective in communicating its subject, SOLIDARNOŚĆ, especially compared to the monochrome delivery of its copper-nickel sibling, the 10000-zlotych mentioned above.
This big pure silver coin is of course an exercise in NCLT, but the importance of its subject demands special treatment. Or so I think, anyway.
