I must apologize that i write in english but I'm not very good at writing in german. I come from Denmark.

I think I have the same coin as New11, its made of gold and is made like a necklace. Its a Deutsches Reich 20 mark from 1908 with a picture of Wilhelm II on the front. I have inherited the coin from my mother and I know she has it from her father.

The coin this thema is about - is it also made of gold? And how do I know if this coin is from Hamburg? Its not written on the coin.

Hello firewolf,
is it also made of gold?
yes, the original 20 Mark coins are made in 900/1000 gold.
And how do I know if this coin is from Hamburg
turn this coin around and look at the mintmark.
A = Berlin
J = Hamburg

Yeah, I was wondering what that mark stood for. Unfortunately its an "A" - which means it must have been made in Berlin. What does that mean when it comes to price/rareness?

By the way, thanks for the answers - I'm rather curious about the history of this coin an what it eventually is worth (not that I'm going to sell it!)
