1. In late WW2, the Allies bombed Stuttgart Münzen. The Mint Workers were able to recover enough machinery to set the Münzen up again, in the basement of a nearby building, eventually making the Allied Occupation coins in there!

- Can anyone confirm this?
- Does anyone know the Location of this Basement?
- Did they stay in the basement until the opening of the NEW Stuttgart Münzen in the 1960's?

2. A Scrap Merchant legally bought a lot of scrap metal from the bombed Stuttgart Münzen. In the 1960's while searching thru old containers from the Stuttgart Münzen, he apparently found hand-fulls of old coins, that turned out to be Pattern/Probe-Münzen, Specimin and Trial Coins! The government and mint, having legally sold the material as scrap, was helpless!

The scrap merchant sent the coins to auction, where they were sold to collectors all over the world!

- Can anyone confirm this?
- Does anyone have anymore details of this? What the coins were? Where the Auction was? Was there an Auction Catalog? etc!
- Is there any references to this in books/papers/magazines and etc?

Danke!

Well, the story is true, almost...

The Basement, was actually the basement of the Mint (cos the roof got blown off by the bombing) and the Scrap dealer bough the scrap in the 1960's, after the Stuttgart Mint moved to its new location...

Still searching for any text or pictures on this tho!
