Guten Abend, ihr Lieben!

Nein, heute gibt es kein neues Stück aus der Kategorie "Der Troll weiß überhaupt nichts damit anzufangen" - diesmal war die ein oder andere Suchanfrage erfolgreich.
Dennoch sitze ich jetzt recht irritiert vor dieser Münze:
Nachdem ich das gute Stück bei eBay einstellen wollte und aufgrund der amerikanischen Beschränkungen daran gehindert wurde, stellte ich mir die Frage, warum die Kubaner eine Gedenkmünze zur Entdeckung Amerikas ausgeben, wohl wissend, dass sich beide Länder nicht sonderlich grün sind...
Und da ich schon zugebe, dass ich die Münze loswerden wollte: Was ist diese denn wert? Und wie bringe ich sie vielversprechend an den Mann?

Cuba—or what became Cuba—was actually visited by Columbus on his first voyage to the “New World,” whereas the U.S.A.—or what became the U.S.A.—was not. For Cuba to issue a Columbus commemorative, then, is a quite natural thing to do.

And of course “America” as it appears on the Cuban commemorative, is the more expansive use of the word as we use it here—that is, as the whole of the continents of North America and South America, together with any nearby islands. So, again, the use of “America” on this Cuban commemorative seems quite natural.

As to its value in your own local markets I cannot say, but I’m sure someone more knowledgeable on that score will be along soon….
