Hallo zusammen,

auf einem Flohmarkt habe ich auf Verdacht einen Civil War Store Card Token aus Nantucket Massachusetts zur Sanitary Fair im August 1864 erworben. Dieser wird wohl einschlägig unter der Katalognummer MA530A-1a mit Raritätsstufe R5 geführt.

Ist es richtig, dass die Raritätsstufe R5 heißt, dass es zwischen 75 und 200 Exemplare gibt bzw. hergestellt worden sind?
Wie ist das Stück preislich einzuordnen. Bei Auktionen sind anscheinend ca. 400-450 USD (ohne Zuschlag) in vergleichbarer Erhaltung erzielt worden.

I hope I understand the question.

The rarity indexes generally applied to American Civil War tokens deal not with production, but with survival. So a rating of R5 here means that between 75 and 200 examples are thought to exist today.

thanks for your feedback. This is exactly what I was asking for. I wasn´t sure if the rarity stands for the number of minted or for the number of existing pieces. I found the information that R5 means that there are between 75 and 200 pieces known, but I couldn´t believe it. Also I noticed that the rarity level could change, if additional tokens will be found.

Could you provide some information about value?

I'm sorry, stehenk, but I just don't know enough to be of any help. American Civil War tokens are quite a complicated subject, and how the value of your particular piece might fit within that universe is simply a mystery to me.

Nice looking piece, though, which I'm sure you'll have fun chasing down. Maybe other folks here know more?
