wohl eine unterstützendwerte neue datenbank ist die von coinproject.com.
der initiator derselben schreibt in der monetaL mailing list das folgende:

Scheint ein interessantes Projekt aus dem Umfeld des amerikanischen Forums zu sein. Also "prinzipiell" unterstützenswert. Danke, Frank. Bin schon angemeldet. Mal sehen, ob ich die Zeit finde, mich als "volunteer" zu betätigen.

Ja, die Gegenparty zu ACsearch sozusagen...

Das denke ich nicht, da die dort aufgelisteten Münzen überwiegend aus dem Bereich des "Forum Ancient Coins" kommen. Also eher eine Ergänzung zu acsearch. Außerdem gibt es dort die Möglichkeit, selbst interessante Münzen aus seiner Sammlung einzubringen.

Da haben aber auch einige Firmen schon Münzenbilder und -daten beigesteuert, u.a. CNG.

Nein.
Aber Du sagtest, dass es kein Konkurrenzprodukt zu acsearch sei, weil die meisten Münzen aus dem Bereich des FAC kämen.
Das scheint mir nur jetzt zu gelten, weitere 300000 werden folgen. Von FAC bzw. aus dessen Bereich?

Exakt das ist für mich auch das Interessante im Gegensatz zu acsearch. Hab übrigens schon drei seltene Piusse ( Antoninus Pius Münzen ) dazugesteuert, welche man bei acsearch vergeblich sucht. Also raus mit euren seltenen Münzen aus den Schubern.

So kann man das natürlich auch sehen. Aber für uns Sammler kann es, denke ich, nur gut sein, wenn es mehrere Suchmaschinen gibt oder nicht ?

schon allein deswegen keine konkurrenz, weil nur acsearch auch preise liefert!

Um noch einmal den Unterschied zu anderen Suchmaschinen klar zu machen:

Der Witz soll hier sein, daß die Münzen (und die Bestimmungen sowie Katalognummern) überprüft sind, was natürlich, verbunden damit, daß anders als bei z.B. Wildwinds auch mehrere identische Exemplare aufgenommen werden, ein riesiger Aufwand ist.

Trotzdem ist es eine gute Sache und wer ein Spezialgebiet hat kann sich dort einbringen, das gibt es sonst nirgendwo soweit ich weiß.

Wir machen uns da keine Konkurrenz weil es sich ja um ganz unterschiedliche Datenbanken handelt: bei uns geht es um Auktionsergebisse, Online-Angebote und Preise, beim Coinproject um eine Art Wiki für antike Münzen. Im Übrigen stehen wir mit dem Betreiber von Coinproject in freundschaftlichem Kontakt und eine zukünftige Zusammenarbeit ist durchaus denkbar.

Was die nackten Zahlen angeht, so stehen wir im Moment bei ca. 680'000 Münzen und pro Jahr kommen voraussichtlich weitere 200'000 Einträge hinzu (ACS und MCS zusammen).
