Estimate: CHF 700.00
Lot of three 2 Assaria pieces of Septimius Severus, all struck from the same obverse die. 69.1 (AE, 6.52 g, 24.5 mm, 5). Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Septimius Severus to right, seen from behind. Rev. Artemis running to right, holding two torches; to right, stag standing to right. NCP, A I var.; 69.2 (AE, 8.92 g, 25 mm, 5). Rev. On the left, Isis, standing right, holding sistrum and vase, facing, on the right, Asklepios, standing left, holding staff entwined with a serpent. NCP p. 154, 1 (perhaps this coin?). 69.3 (AE, 8.17 g, 25 mm, 2). Rev. Dionysos seated left, holding kantharos in his right hand and thyrsos with his left; at his feet to left, panther. NCP, A III (these dies?). Very rare. A fascinating group, especially since all three share the same obverse die, and the second may be the only known example of the type. The first with a fine green patina, the others with brown patinas. Good fine or better. (3)
69.2 from the collection of A. Rhousopoulos.
