Re: Unknown medieval coin . Flandern ??
Anyone ??
We have a tip that this maybe is a coin from Jülich ( Berg / Kleve)
Perhaps someone can confirm this ?

Re: Unknown medieval coin . Flandern ??
Hello Pinpoint,
i was checking all my books about Southern-NL-Coins and only found a familiar (not same) looking coin struck in Gent.
Here is a picture of that coin I found.
Vanhoudt-Atlas der Munten van Belgie (van de kelten tot heden)-H 208
Filips de Schone(1482-1506), Groot, biljoen Gent (1489-1490) DdP 18, 42; VG-H149
If you need what the Gelder/Hoc says i can write that too, but I do not have that book at home.
Otherwise i am still looking for more Informations about this coin!
Hopefully i could help a bit.
Kind regards
Frederik

Re: Unknown medieval coin . Flandern ??
Hoi Frederik ,
Coin specialist in Belgium checked several times Vanhoudt en Lucas .
Until now they could'nt find the right match .
Their conclusion till now is that it could be : Zuiderlijke Nederlanden ( Southern NL) , a Maaslandse imitation fot the Netherlands.
Jülich ( Berg / Cleve) is possible to .
We still searching
Thanks for your exellent help

Re: Unknown medieval coin . Flandern ??
Hello again,
i was checking for Jülich Berg coins on the Internet, and I have to say, the design of your Shield+Lion looks very different to
the coins I found on the web.
What I found from J/B was:
1. Lion w/o shield.
2. Lion on shield w/o those wavy lines surrounding.
The most fitting one I found was the coin from Gent i showed before. Maybe a varianty?? I dont know.
When I find something, i will let you know. =)
But i wish good luck for the search, and if you find out... please tell me
Kind regards from the Melting-Monschau

Re: Unknown medieval coin
There are imitations of this coin type attributed to Wilhelm of Jülich as count of Ravensberg 1415-1428 with different letters in the angles of the cross.
