such error are rarely seen and it's why they are still unlisted...

it's not realy rare to see the P instead of R in antioch mint because they was talking in greek, I for example have this extremely rare but left with reverse LIBEPALITAS instead of LIBERALITAS

this erros is also known on obverse for reverse ORIENS AVG, and SAECVLI FELICITAS (maybe some other coins but I'm quite tired so I don't check all my database...

... und dann habe ich hier eine, bei der ich mir die Kommentare der werten Kollegen wünsche:

so die normale RIC 213 ist das ja alleine schon wegen der Rv-Legende nicht. Zudem ist die Oberfläche ein bisschen zu porös und die Konturen sind ein bisschen zu flau. Aber an eine "normale" Gussfälschung mag ich trotzdem nicht recht glauben - und das nicht nur, weil ich den Anbieter noch immer für seriös halte, sondern weil ich z.B. auch nicht recht glaube, dass ein Fälscher eine besondere Gussform mit einem falschen Endbuchstaben produzieren würde. Wie gesagt: ich bin für alle hilfreichen Kommentare dankbar (und wenn's richtig mies ausfällt ist's auch nicht schlimm, weil sich der finanzielle Verlust in Grenzen hält und ich wieder mal einen Anbieter aussortieren kann )

I would say geniune but the obverse is quite strange... I can't realy explain it in foreign language...

I will check in my database to find an obverse die link ik will maybe help us.

There is many error in the antiochene second issue I know about 40 different varieties instead of the about 20 refered by RIC so the error is not realy surprising for me even if I never saw this one before

echt dachte ich auch, zu scharf gereinigt ebenfalls. Antiochia war ebenfalls klar (den Panzer bei der von hinten gesehenen Büste gibts nach den bisherigen Erkenntnissen nur dort). Was mich wundert, dass die Rv-Variante mit ORIENS AVS offenbar noch nicht mal Dr. Bland bekannt war, da er sie ja sonst sicher in seiner Arbeit "The coinage of Gordian III from the mints of antioch and Caesarea" erwähnt hätte. Also entweder echt und ultraselten oder eben falsch.

@briac: if genuine the coin must be nearly unique, as Dr. Bland did not mention it in his thesis. So I really would be glad, if you find a die link in your files ...

Dass eine Münze neu ist und bisher offenbar unbekannt, ist doch an sich kein Grund, an ihrer Echtheit zu zweifeln!

Viele bekannte Varianten sind ja Einzelstücke. Viele weitere, bisher unbekannte, werden sicher im Lauf der Zeit auftauchen.

Dear HJK I'm sorry but I have no die link... only about 10-15 coins of realy near style but no same dies few differences in the crown but like it's quite a short coin with a wide part of legend missing it's also difficult to compare...

with all coins I have in my database I can say you not nearby but simply unique if genuine

thank you for checking. I think there are only few doubts about the authenticity of the coin - so I would prefer "unique" .

I would never call a coin "unique" just because its dies had been previously unknown to me.

In the first place, I know that my material only covers a small proportion of all that survives. There are many museum collections I haven't visited, and a huge amount of material in sale catalogues or passing through eBay that I haven't integrated into my files.

Second, I don't consider "new dies" an important enough feature to call "unique". "Unique" should imply something more important, a new type or at least a new date, legend variant, or bust type.

I am always pleased and interested to find new dies, especially in a smaller issue where most dies are already well known, but I just call the discovery "new dies", adding perhaps "the fourth rev. die known for this type".
