PM on the DOA coins.

Hello!
Please, who knows, could you tell the story of PM stamp on the DOA coins. As I know it means Portuguese Mozambique or something like this. But what for? I can only guess, but may be somebody knows exactly.

There are two different PM countermarks (Portuguese Mozambique): with and without crown.

The purpose of the countermark was to legalize the circulating silver coins (from DOA, India, Austria...) in Mozambique (monetary policy: I guess also an instrument to determine how much money circulates in Mozambique).

The PM countermark started (1888-95) during the reign of Luis I (+1889) and substituted the crowned PM countermark.

Beware: There are more fake countermarks than genuines!

Sorry, PM means "Provinca de Mocambique".

PM countermarks after 1895 (also crowned PM after 1888) are suspect.
