I have been very fortunate to pick up three additional Gies WWI art medals over the past six weeks. This is unheard of regarding Gies material and especially the early stuff. I think the economy is mostly responsible for these appearing since the sellers were pretty bummed out that something had to leave their collections. I promised that I would give them a good and loving home.
Ludwig Gies
Angriff (Attack)
1915, Uniface art medal, Cast Bronze, 74.9mm, 101.7g., Gussfrisch, RRR.
6 examples are known with three in private collections and three in the following museums;
Brüssel, Koninklijke Bibliotheek, Albert I Penningkabinett (Royal Library)
London, British Museum, Department of Coins and Medals
Paris, Musée d’Historie Contemporaine a9museum of Contempory History)
