Wied-Runkel rare kreutzer?
Wied-Runkel rare kreutzer?
Hi All,
I'd highly appreciate your help with the coin attached.
It seems to be a rare kreutzer from the german statelet Wied Runkel.
Unfortunately I do not have access to the newest catalogues, but in Krauze's catalogue (Standard catalogue of German coins, page 943) I see a similar kreutzer (pos. 5) with different revers. It seems that this is a coin placed below (pos. 7), defined as rare but not priced.
Diameter 15 mm.
Avers: bust, IOH. LUD. ADOL. G. Z. W. I. U. C. (Johann Ludwig Adolph, Graf zu Wied-Runkel – Isenburg und Criechingen)
Revers; coat of arms, G. WR. LAND. MUNZ. 1758
I understand the condition is not very good, but still as it is rare it seems to be quite interesting for German numismaticians.
I believe it should be described in Das Münzwesen in den Grafschaften Wied-Neuwied und Wied-Runkel of Mr. Konrad Schneider but the book is out of my reach.
Thank you in advance for all suggestions and info.
What can be its worth?

Re: Wied-Runkel rare kreutzer?
Hi,
I also don't own the special literature that you mentioned.
But this seems to be Schön Nr.10. Unfortunately in my old version of the Schön catalog there is no photo of this coin.
And there is no price, too. That of course is a hint that this coin really is quite rare.
Translation for German readers (Übersetzung für deutsche Leser):
Ich besitze die von dir erwähnte Literatur auch nicht. Aber diese Münze scheint Schön Nr.10 zu sein. Leider ist in meiner alten Version des Schön-Katalogs kein Foto dieser Münze.
Und es wird auch kein Preis genannt, was ein Hinweis darauf ist, dass diese Münze wirklich relativ selten ist.
Bye,
Peter

Re: Wied-Runkel rare kreutzer?
Thank you Peter for your answer.
I'm sorry I do not speak your language, just placed my coin here at your forum in hope that some Germans would be interested in such a strange kreutzer saying something about your country's complicated history...
Yup, I agree it is quite rare if (I repeat "IF" it's the coin I/we think it is). The question is how rare?
But still, the condition/quality is not that good... only about 60-70%% details visible. Is the rarity more advantageous than it's (bad) quality...?

Re: Wied-Runkel rare kreutzer?
Oh -sorry
The coin is Schneider #89. It was sold in 2008 at an auction for 110 Euro - but in much better quality (nearly fv)
The Krause catalogue you stated is of nearly no help for evaluations
Grüße
Zwerg

Re: Wied-Runkel rare kreutzer?
Hi,
I've just found a photo of your type of coin:
http://www.sixbid.com/nav.php?p=viewlot&sid=25&lot=7033
So I think you are right, it's KM 7 (Schön 10).
It's probably the same auction that Zwerg mentioned.
Bye,
Peter

Re: Wied-Runkel rare kreutzer?
Yup. It is this version.
It's only a pity I didn't make my dream (of finding a one and only coin... ) come true...
Because the price seems to be quite the same or even lower than the (regular) kreutzer: http://www.sixbid.com/nav.php?p=viewlot&sid=25&lot=7032
The first one (Krause's pos. 5, "regular") is signed as RR at the auction site. And mine is only R (Krause's pos. 7 defined as "rare"). Strange.
Anyway, many thanks you all for your help!
