Servus,

"This is a 20 Para token used for crossing the Galata (Karakoy) bridge in Istanbul. The bridge spans the Golden Horn (Halic) built originally in 1845. In 1875 it was replaced by a new one built in England and was used until 1912 when the third one was installed, this time built in Germany by MAN which was actually used up until 1992. This brass twenty para token was struck in about 1913 and paid for passage over the bridge. It is rumoured that during the period 1913-1930 when the tokens were in use they were actually used as coins as well. The token measures 19mm struck from bronze and weights about 1.72gr. On the obverse it has a star within a circle and underneath it one can clearly read sehremaneti (municipality). The reverse of the token depicts the 20 para within a circle and again underneath it one can read kopru mururiyesi (bridge toll charge)."
