Re: Greek Zodiac
Usually these coins are from Sidon. In the American Forum we have seen coins for Antoninus Pius, Elagabal, Julia Paula, Julia Maesa. Here are some links:

Re: Greek Zodiac
Hello Peter ,
Thanks for your help so far.
We researched already this coin matches but our conclusion is that this object is to detailed in design for a coin of these dating.
For example you see the little greek letters under the zodiac signs.
Could it be a Zodiac amulet / talisman ??
But maybe someone recognized it as a Greek coin.

Re: Greek Zodiac
It's an interesting peace. I don't think that it is a coin. On the other side, not this with the zodiac, there seem to be stars around the different sized points that could significate our solar system with his planets.

Re: Greek Zodiac
For example on the left side from 6 to 9 o'clock the planets have the size of our planets. Uranus and Neptun, then the bigger saturn , the next biggest point could be Jupiter, after it there is Mars, then the bigger Earth the bit smaller Venus and the small Merkur.

Re: Greek Zodiac
Are you sure ? That's what the official meaning is. After romans beton was also forgotten till the middle of the 19th century. I think the antique folks knew much more about cosmic things as the scientists attest them. Or perhaps the peace is an younger one.Cluster hat geschrieben:Uranus and Neptun shouldn't be possible. They weren't known before the 18th and 19th century.

Re: Greek Zodiac
Under certain circunstances you can watch all planets except Neptun withou any instruments and to watch Neptun it's only necessary to have binoculars and we know that the greeks had the technology to produce lenses (http://www.science-frontiers.com/sf053/sf053a02.htm ) It's not impossible that they had observed our solar system and recognized all of our planets.
